I would agree with you Sascha except that their inconsistency is the problem. The 4j director was quite outraged at the degree with which they chose their victims. For example since the "incident" I have entered the school 6 times, always checking with the office. This time they asked for my ID which I have no problem with. It was when I asked them why they said it was a standard security issue. When confronted with my question as to why they have never asked for my ID before, just two days before in what most would consider normal street cloths they brought in security.

According to the 4J director the policy was in place since the beginning of the year. The "incident" that occured which pushed them to pursue it further was almost two months before my incident. I never raised my voice, never threatened them. I simply asked them WHY they chose me to ask for my ID. That was when they began the campaign of terror. They called in a security officer (actually a teacher) who started insinuating things about me that were less than pleasant. I was quite red in the face mad, but never yelled or acted out. They had a police officer there, and had I acted out I am sure I would have been arrested. Since I wasn't I can assure you though I was steaming mad underneath I never acted inappropriately. Even the officer said, I can see your angry and you haven't done anything wrong. Why don't we step out of the office and away from the administration. This was the officer's way of pulling me out to ask me questions. (I did go to school to become an officer and know exactly what she was doing.)

Every question she asked, as was my right I asked her the reason for the question. She pulled the "safety" of the school card and I did cooperate, but that doesn't mean that I didn't deserve to a) Be treated with respect and b) get answers as to why I was singled out. I offered the officer my ID when asked and told the officer to watch this. I explained that my wife would be arriving soon and I bet that she wouldn't be asked for ID. We walked out, and watched my plain clothed wife into the school ask for our daughter (as I did) and wasn't asked for any ID or anything. Not a single raised eyebrow.

So we took our complaint to the 4j offices and after a talk with them they said they would talk to the principle. The next day the principle called and asked me to come in. We had a long talk to which she said her secretary and the teacher who acted as the drill sergeant were outside their bounds. Their inconsistencies and over the top treatment of a parent were uncalled for. We were given an apology and assurances that new training for all office staff and some "Skills training for the two major offenders" would be taken into effect.

I would be the first to applaud an ID check for anyone wanting access to the students that they are responsible for. However, I would say it should be universally applied. Statistically speaking anyone meaning harm to students and teachers try not to draw attention to themselves. I was celebrating my daughter's sweet 16th. Even if my appearance was out of the norm, and for some ass backwards reason it was part of their procedure to monitor such individuals verbal abuse, and threats I can guarantee are not part of the curriculum. Let them ID us, let them check it against the list of pervs... all for the best. However, lets use one cent of common sense and use this uniformily and not pick on people because of personal prejudices.

Nah I was just trying to illustrate that "profiling" is now a buzz word. I mean if you statistically look at who hijacks and flies planes into buildings, and you determine that 95% of the time white women from Wisconsin ages 90 and up perpetrate that crime, then yeah I think white women from Wisconsin ages 90 and up should be scrutinized a little more thoroughly at airport security. I mean if you happen to be an old white lady from the Midwest who DOESN'T do jacked up shit, hey sorry you had to take your shoes off. So it really didn't have anything to do with the Hell's Angels "wait listing" my app while they check with Geico about group rates.

Realistically, they smooth gave your wife your daughter just to be dicks. Think about it, you know we’d have done the same thing.

NEHS recently tightened all security because of a racial "incident" involving parents on black youth. NOT OKAY. Also NOT OKAY is how they treated you. I'm glad you filed the complaint. I hope it's reviewed at the 4J school board equity committee.

I agree, I even said that it was fine they asked for my ID. What I said was fucked up was why they never asked me for my ID while I was dressed in normal street wear.

And if wearing yoga wear is terrorist clothing then your leather moto jacket makes you a hells angel. We both know they wouldn't have you, even they have standards. They would say that your arrest record would give them a bad name. (Incidentally is why you are being profiled by your insurance company)

The other thing that really was really messed up was my wife walked in wearing sweat pants and a PUNISHER SKULL T-SHIRT. She just walks in and they are oh, well hell let me get your daughter for you! Me, in Buddhist wear it was like.. Okay man you damn pacifist! I totally would have been for the ID check had they done it the other 15 times I have gone in there. Those times I was wearing Docs, and mostly Punk outfits but not even a second glance, or concern. No sir, here is your daughter. All I am asking for is some consistency in the policy, do they call security down, and the onsite cop for every individual who asks to see their child? More than likely NOT! They always just give my wife a name tag and send her on her way. I mean, what if she was in a sleeper cell?

And let me assure you she spends enough time in bed that it is true!

I would have been pissed too, only my daughter would have been saying, "Oh no, Daddy's getting arrested again. I hope they don't Taze him... too late."

On the real though, I think they should check your ID and have you sign in, if you want to visit a student. Kids are in their care while they are there. God forbid, but if something happened, the risk is just too great to worry about an inconvenience.

As far as profiling goes... I'm not saying you don't have a right to dress like a terrorist, this is America and you can dress however you like. They should profile though. My god damn insurance company has been profiling me ever since I started driving. They're all like statistically young male drivers get in more accidents than everyone else, so your premiums are going to be higher than everyone else. So then I was like, "You don't know me like that dawg!" My credit companies profile me too, but in that case it works out in my favor. Anyway, profiling is a tool. It's not always right, nothing is. I mean if it didn't help the FBI catch serial killers and what not, they wouldn't teach behavioral profiling to them. (What clothes you wear is a behavior.)

Anyway though bro, as your brother I want NEHS to take every step imaginable to keep your kids safe, even if that means it pisses you off. (The bonus there for me is I get to read an amusing story later.) At the same time I would have been pissed too and probably would've choked a mother fucker! Plus I think you should wear whatever the fuck you feel like and if anyone doesn't like it, fuck 'em! Then again, you should probably expect them to treat you like a terrorist if you dress like a terrorist. I think you handled the situation very well though. No reason to catch a case over some bullshit, imo.
